JUST PLAY

2017-2018

This collection represents a time of play in my life. After completing a large collection of serious works in black and white scratchboard (In Times Of Trouble), these pieces are my attempt to blend multiple mediums, explore color and "get out of my head" for a bit.

IN TIMES OF TROUBLE

2016-2017

This collection explores the iconic and sometimes solemn imagery found in the photographs of our American history: World War II
The Great Depression, The Civil Rights Movement, and more - images both of protest and celebration. By working from photographs taken
during the mid-twentieth century, I honor the generation that rose against racism, segregation, war and famine in America. By bringing these images to light in a new way, I hope they will serve as a celebration of what was accomplished, a reminder of what still must change, and a call to move forward, equal, together.

A note on The Buchenwald Project: The Buchenwald Project was created from a photograph taken in 1945 during the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp. It was created in 35 sections, each individual square measuring 5x5", and each mounted about an inch from the slatted wood that serves as its "canvas". The squares were not scratched in order. In fact, I purposely completed them in random order so as to encourage small differences in shading or technique from square to square, only noticeable once fully assembled.

This collection was made possible, in part, with support from the 2017 Impact Award/Emerging Artist Grant from Creative Pinellas.
